Mapping Assignment - 2 maps were sent home today after viewing a slideshow of the 3 main travel routes to CA circa 1840s. ON THE BLANK MAP, you basically need to recreate the first map (Travel Routes to CA) with the exception that the key and 3 routes need to be color-coded. For example, you might decide that the Panama Route is a blue line.

4th Grade Earth Day Spelling HW
DUE FRIDAY:
Monday - Write the definition of each word. You may need to look up the base word for words with a suffix such as composting.
Tuesday - Online - Look up (Google) and WRITE DOWN the definition and importance of Earth Day. Minimum 3 sentences.
Wednesday - Write a paragraph starting: April 22nd is Earth Day. . . . . Then use as many words from your spelling list as you can in your paragraph to tell how someone (or you) can take great care of our planet Earth.
Thursday – Write a final draft. Edit your parapraph for correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar. (It's okay if an adult helps you with this.) Read it quietly out loud and make sure that every sentence makes sense and is not missing or needing any words. Rewrite in your neatest cursive.
FRIDAY – Bring everything stapled – that's 4 pages total, and 5 if you include this paper.

I'm sorry - I was not able to send home Spelling or Timestables practice today because the xerox machine is down. However I started new reading HW for both grades. All the directions and book were sent home in a gallon size zip-loc. PLEASE PLEASE 4th grade bring the Lemonade War book back tomorrow and any day it is sent home for. Whereas 3rd grade keeps their book at home until OCTOBER 26th. - SPELLING - Practice your spelling words on Spellingcity.com (button above). The spelling words are listed under Monday HW. I think it is also a great idea to copy them exactly on paper with your pencil so you get practice actually WRITING them because that's what you'll be doing during the spelling test tomorrow.
- MATH - PLEASE master your 2s tables by tomorrow if you did not pass the gumball test on Monday. I sent home a practice packet yesterday which included "make your own flashcards" and several practice pages. In addition, you can practice on the multiplication buttons above. If it says, "Multiples," choose 2. Then you'll be practicing your 2s timestables!!!!!

- Monday - Math HW (worksheet), Spelling HW (write 5 sentences using 5 different spelling words. So one sentence for each different word); BONUS - research one of the spelling words and write down what you discovered.
- Tuesday - Spelling HW - 10 choices sent home today. Spelling list and choices are on one paper. You can pick one choice, hopefully one that you didn't do in class today. ALSO - whhe will be designing maps for social studies. Think about a place you'd like to make a map for - real or imaginary.
- Wednesday - Latitude and Longitude worksheet. This is the class's first exposure to this. I provided a brief introduction today. We will continue to practice this mapping skill.
- Thursday - Practice for your spelling test. Try to figure out the most effective way to study. Have someone give you a practice test? Flascards? Write the words 3 x each? Students can study differently; Math WS on Rounding; Can you tell your family what ocean California is near? Also what is the computer "capital" of California called?
